SNOTEL

NRCS is responsible for administering the cooperative snow survey and water supply forecast program in 12 western states.  To fulfill this responsibility, the agency operates an automated network of over 740 SNOTEL (SNOw TELemetry) sites located in remote mountain locations that measure and transmit snowpack, precipitation and temperature data.  The real-time data provided by this network and webpage allow users to effectively manage water and other natural resources.
