Winter started at the beginning of November with the early arrival of a record setting 40cm snowfall. Conditions remained snowy resulting in 66cm depth of snow on the ground at the airport at the end of February. Northwest Canada & Alaska was mostly dryer than normal.

A strong storm moved from the northwest Bering Sea, across Chukotka and into the southwest Chukchi Sea November 5 to 7. The storm brought snow and rain to St. Lawrence Island, the Bering Strait and most of the Seward Peninsula. Heavy snow also fell over parts of Interior Alaska on November 5-7 from the same storm system.

Summer was cloudy and wetter than normal over eastern Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Northern BC. Temperatures were generally colder than normal or close to normal in Yukon, Northwest Territories and Northern BC.

The winter period, December 2019 to February 2020, was colder than normal in almost all of Alaska and most of central and northern Yukon and Northwest Territories. This past winter was the first normally cold Yukon winter in the last few years.

Autumn 2019 began with drought or abnormal dryness in southern Alaska, stretching from the Alaska Peninsula in the west to the Panhandle in the east. Repeated autumn storms brought a range of near normal to much above normal precipitation to southwest and south central Alaska.

Most of Alaska, Yukon, the western portion of the Northwest Territories (NT) and northern British Columbia (BC) were significantly warmer than normal during this past spring, with some areas in Yukon, and the NT near record warmth. In contrast, a small area in northwestern BC was colder than normal. Temperatures over the remainder of BC averaged near normal.
