Organic Soil Moisture Monitoring in Coastal North Carolina: Assisting Coastal Zone Fire Risk Monitoring and Management
The State Climate Office of North Carolina, with funding from NIDIS and support from Carolinas Integrated Sciences and Assessments (a NOAA RISA team), established a system of organic soil moisture monitoring stations at select locations in eastern North Carolina. Real-time information from this network will address needs regarding coastal zone fire risk. Key partners included the North Carolina Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy, North Carolina State Parks, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
