Oregon Climate Service houses the office of the state climatologist of Oregon, Larry O'Neill. Part of the duties of the state climatologist is to engage with, and provide expertise to, government, industry, and academia on issues related to general climate and weather, including drought. Outreach activities include communications with media and engagement with public and private stakeholders. The state climatologist also serves on various state-level committees to advise on drought and climate and leads a consortium of local expertise in providing weekly input into the U.S. Drought Monitor. The state climatologist collaborates and coordinates activities with neighboring states and regional organizations on drought and climate related projects and discussions.
