Winter temperatures were as much as 4°C (7°F) above normal.  Winter precipitation ranged from 50% of normal to 150% of normal. In Nova Scotia, this winter ranked among the ten driest for the Greenwood and Truro areas.

Quarterly Climate Impacts and Outlook for the Gulf of Maine Region for December 2017 – February 2018. Dated March 2018.   

The first significant storm of the season, on December 9-10, brought 15 to 30 cm (5.9 to 11.8 in.) of snow to parts of New Brunswick. Several thousand customers lost power there. The storm was mainly a rain event over Nova Scotia with up to 70 mm (2.8 in.) over Cape Breton.

Summer was characterized by high variability in temperature, rainfall, and weather events. Moderate drought developed in portions of Maine and the Maritimes, while parts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire had several heavy rain events. There were multiple severe thunderstorm and flash flooding events throughout the
summer.

Drought conditions lingered but slowly improved during winter in New England and parts of the Maritimes. By early January, extreme drought had eased in eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire. By late January, severe drought had eased in eastern Massachusetts and Maine, while moderate drought had eased in New Brunswick and much of Nova Scotia.
