Document Description

Quarterly Climate Impacts and Outlook for the Midwest Region for September – November 2017.  Dated December 2017.

Temperatures were well above average for a two-week period in September. More than 2,000 record highs occurred in the latter half of September, with Chicago setting new record high maximum temperatures for seven straight days from the 20th to the 26th. September was the fifth driest on record in Illinois and Missouri and seventh driest on record in Michigan. October was the wettest on record in Michigan, the 4th wettest in Iowa, 8th wettest in Wisconsin, and 9th wettest in Kentucky. The Midwest as a whole experienced its 5th wettest October on record.

NOAA’s Regional Climate Services Program created these Climate Outlooks to inform the public about recent climate impacts within their respective regions. Each regional report contains easy-to-understand language, and anyone can access them through the Drought Portal at https://www.drought.gov/drought/resources/reports.
