Document Description
HIghlights from December 2016, January and February 2017 for the Western states include:
- Winter (Dec-Feb) was wettest on record for NV, WY; 2nd wettest for CA.
- Snowpack is well above normal in Sierra Nevada, southern Cascades, central and southern Rockies
- Precipitation caused major flooding, travel impacts across West
- Cooler than normal temperatures occured across northern tier of West; above normal in Four Corners area
- Second warmest winter on record for NM; 6th warmest for AZ
- Significant reduction in drought conditions across West
NOAA’s Regional Climate Services Program created these Climate Outlooks to inform the public about recent climate impacts within their respective regions.
