Document Description

The Midwest Drought Early Warning System (DEWS) Strategic Plan outlines strategic goals, outcomes, and objectives for the Midwest DEWS, developed in consultation with federal, Tribal, state, and local partners across multiple sectors in the region. Its overarching aim is to strengthen drought early warning and preparedness across the region. The Plan will guide Midwest DEWS efforts and programmatic investments over the next five years and, in consultation with regional partners, is intended to be an adaptable living document to address emerging challenges.

Authors developed the first draft of this Plan through engagement with regional partners over several years, building on the 2021–2024 Plan and key insights from the August 2024 Midwest DEWS Partners Meeting. Partners across the region reviewed and provided feedback during virtual engagements in spring 2025. Authors finalized the plan after collecting this feedback.
