Quarterly Climate Impacts and Outlook for the Western Region - September 2019
Quarterly Climate Impacts and Outlook for the Western Region for June – August 2019. Dated September 2019.
Summer temperatures were well above normal throughout the Southwest, California, and western Washington and Oregon. Great Basin and Northern Rockies temperatures were generally near normal with widespread slightly below normal temperatures east of the Rockies. Most of the West observed a drier than normal summer with the exception of eastern Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. The Southwestern Monsoon, which typically begins around June 15, started late and failed to produce ample precipitation.
NOAA’s Regional Climate Services Program created these Climate Outlooks to inform the public about recent climate impacts within their respective regions. Each regional report contains easy-to-understand language, and anyone can access them through the Drought Portal.
