The Southern Plains has been in drought for over 6 years. Despite some respite last summer, drought in Texas and Oklahoma has worsened over the winter, and farmers are looking ahead at a potentially concerning season. But with El Niño in the long-range forecast, some are optimistic about changing weather patterns. This webinar will dive into current and forecast drought conditions followed by a look at what decisions farmers are making now in response to present drought conditions and what El Niño might mean for agriculture in the region later this year.

This webinar will be recorded and available here.

Presenters:

  • Current Drought Conditions and Outlook: Brad Pugh, NOAA National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center
  • The El Niño–Southern Oscillation and Temperature/Precipitation Outlooks: Anthony Artusa, NOAA National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center
