The Drought.gov team reformats data from multiple partners into web- and GIS-ready formats, which we use throughout Drought.gov. These data, hosted on Google Cloud Storage, are free for all to download or reference directly from their web applications.

Drought worsened again in Texas/Oklahoma, Lower Midwest, Lower Mississippi River, and Southeast. Remnants of Hurricane Polo will help, but will also bring flooding risk. Meanwhile, parts of the West and rest of the Plains saw drought improve. As of September 29, 2026, 49.78% of the United States and Puerto Rico and 59.38% of the Lower 48 states are in drought.
