In March 2020, drought intensified rapidly along the lower Rio Grande in Texas. Over the next five years, drought severity waxed and waned across the Southern Plains. NIDIS and the Southern Regional Climate Center conducted a post-drought assessment of the Southern Plains drought of 2020-2025 to understand the drought’s evolution and impacts.
