Pre-Workshop Meeting: Improving Communication of Soil Moisture Information

On June 8, 2026, NOAA’s National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS) and the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) are hosting a pre-workshop meeting on Improving Communication of Soil Moisture Information. The meeting will explore best practices for communicating soil moisture information to make it actionable for end users to support a variety of public needs, such as water resource management, agricultural production, drought preparedness and response, and more. Topics will include:

  • Who are the key audiences of soil moisture information providers?
  • What metrics best meet the intended uses of soil moisture information?
  • Case studies/examples of effective communication techniques
  • Discussion of standards or guidelines for communicating soil moisture information to specific audiences

This is a side meeting to the 17th annual National Soil Moisture Workshop. If you also wish to attend the 2026 National Soil Moisture Workshop, you must register for that event in addition  to registering for this meeting.
